This part of the tour was self guided. We got the historic part upfront from the guide then were free to roam around the monastery for 20 minutes.
It was interesting because we were allowed to roam around freely, but I was uncertain about how safe and maintained the monastery was for tourists. The area around the grounds was generally pretty clean.
The guide recommend we hike to the top of the monastery for a good view, so I gave it a shot. I made it to the 2nd level and proceeded to the 3rd, but on my way I saw A LOT of dead pigeons along the path at the same level as the roof rafters. I stopped ascending there and slowly went back to ground level.
I continued to explore the rest of the monastery, but with a lot more caution.
